Young Authors to be honored
The 24th Annual Write Your Own Book Competition was a big success. This year there were 126 entries from 12 schools and home schools. Winners will be honored this Saturday March 9th at 2 p.m. Kelsey Miller, author of Retribution will speak at the reception.
Blue ribbon books will be bound and added to the library’s collection. Certificates and blue ribbons will be awarded to the following winners: grades 7-8 Brianna Kemp “The Changes”; grades 5-6 Hannah C. Tavani “Scrat the Squirrel” grades 3-4 David Joseph Smith “Saving George” ; and grades 1-2 Molly Pifer “Tigger my crazy kitten.”
The red ribbon winners are grades 7-8 Katie Phykitt “Life is more fun when you rhyme” ; 5-6 Sophie Williams “Sheeataka” ; 3-4 Alexis Driscoll “The Lochness Monster in our swimming pool” ; 1-2 Maya Moody “The Evil Witch and the three good friends.”
There are also eight honorable mentions. Vicky Yang, Adam Gorsline, Emma Repsher, Kevin Wilcox, Kolby John Hoffman, Enzo Ottaviani, Blaine Warburton and Natalie Williams. They will receive a certificate.
All the children who wrote a book can pick up their book at the library starting Monday March 11th, at 8 AM. Thank you to everyone who participated this year!

Summer Reading 2012 "Dream Big - Read!"
Join us for Summer Reading Club!!! Registration starts June 18th. The programs start June 20th and end July 25th. Evenings are meant for school-age children with programs starting at 6 p.m. Preschool story time is Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
We will be having the following programs :
Wed. June 20th : Owls - we will dissect pellets (6 PM)
Wed. June 27th : Bats with Nicole Carman of Mt. Pisgah (6 PM)
Tues. July 3rd : Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka (6 PM)
Wed. July 11th : Make bottle rockets with Cynthia Williams (6 PM)
Wed. July 18th : Bruce Weaver puppet show (6 PM)
Wed. July 25th : Author Greg Bellows will share his book The Giant (6 PM)

Tie Dye Workshop
We will be holding a tie-dye workshop for kids and teens on Saturday May 26th at ll a.m. Bring a shirt, bandana, towel or anything else that you would like to dye. We will go over a few basic techniques. Hope to see you there!

Dave Bross will be joining us again this year for Kites at the Library. Make a box kite and then try it out on our hill behind the library!

Fancy Nancy Tea Party
Young ladies ages 4-10 are welcome to join us for a Fancy Nancy tea party this Wednesday March 21st at 6:30 p.m. We will enjoy some hors d'oeuvres, a game, crafts and hear the story Fancy Nancy.

Write Your Own Book 2012
It is that time of year again! Time to start thinking about writing your own book for our competition. The rules have gone out this week. They will be posted below as well. If you have any questions about the book competition please contact Sarah at 297-2436 or stoodys@bradfordco.org
WRITE YOUR OWN BOOK 2012 rules
Any school or home school students, grades 1-8, who live or go to school in Bradford County, may participate.
The book will be original, by one student, on any subject.
The paper must be regular copy paper and 8 1/2 x 11 and use only one side.
Please type or write in ink; parents should not change the child's work.
Drawings may be in color or black/white. No pencil please.
Margins for text and pictures must be as follows: 1 inch margin on the top and bottom 1 1/8 inch margin on left and right side.
The book will have a cover designed by the author.
Include two title pages. One will include only the name of the author and the other will include: name of author, age, grade, school, home phone number.
Please bring your book to the Bradford County Library by 8:00 PM on Tuesday February 21st.
